DeWitt TSA
Dewitt, along with many other schools in New York, has a Technology Student Association (TSA) chapter. In our chapter, we always participate in both the National TSA competition and the NYS TSA competition. This particular year, our chapter consists of 18 members, including 5 elected officers. Our chapter has won the Chapter of the Year award many times, and in addition we have also swept the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards for many events.
All of our members work hard every single meeting in order to beat the deadline for the competitions. It definitely pays off when a day before the deadline you can relax, knowing your project is complete.
We are all proud to be a part of Dewitt TSA, not only because we achieve great things, but also because we have passed the intensive approval process. Many people apply to join TSA each year, but only the best will get in. There are multiple tasks that you are judged on for applying to our chapter. Some of the main aspects the trials are looking for in potential members are that they cooperate, are willing to learn, and can meet deadlines and specifications. The final test in the process is to send in a Pringles potato chip, protecting it while maintaining an arbitrary maximum weight. About half of the applicants will be eliminated in the end. Through such specific requirements of cooperation, we all get along and have a great time working to produce something that we all hope will work well. This "lather, rinse, repeat" pattern has been going on for tens of years.
